Fitter — Day or Night Shift

Malvern, AR

Position Summary

All Steel is seeking an experienced structural steel Fitter to join our fabrication team. This role is focused on assembling cut components into accurate, square, code-compliant assemblies ready for welding, working directly from shop drawings. The ideal candidate reads a drawing quickly and correctly, has a steady hand with a tape and square, and takes ownership of getting a piece right the first time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assembly Fit-Up: Fit cut components together into assemblies per shop drawings, using proper joint spacing, squareness, and alignment.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret structural shop drawings and weld symbols to determine part orientation, connection details, and dimensional requirements.
  • Tack Welding: Tack weld parts in place to hold fit-up prior to final welding, ensuring assemblies hold their shape and dimensions.
  • Dimensional Verification: Check squareness, plumb, and dimensions using tape measures, squares, and levels before handing assemblies off to welding.
  • Material Staging: Pull and organize the correct cut parts for each assembly, working with material handling to keep the fitting station supplied.
  • Equipment Operation: Use hand tools, come-alongs, clamps, jacks, and cranes as needed to align and hold parts during fit-up.
  • Quality Control: Catch and flag mis-cut, damaged, or incorrect parts before fitting them into an assembly, and communicate issues to QC and the shop lead.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with welders, QC, and shop leadership to keep assemblies moving efficiently through the fitting station.
  • Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, professional work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience fitting structural steel in a fabrication shop environment.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret structural shop drawings and weld symbols.
  • Precision Mindset: High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, squareness, and material conservation.
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of structural connections and how fit-up quality affects downstream welding and final assembly.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a high-output shop environment for extended periods.
  • Reliability: A track record of punctuality and a commitment to meeting production deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18–$25/hr depending on experience
  • All overtime paid at double time — not time-and-a-half
  • Shop-only work — no travel, home every night
  • Day or night shift available
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • Health and dental insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Opportunities for advancement within the company
