Material Handler — Day or Night Shift

Malvern, AR

Position Summary

All Steel is seeking a reliable Material Handler to keep raw material, work-in-process parts, and finished assemblies moving efficiently through our shop. This role is focused on receiving, staging, and organizing steel so that fitting, welding, and shipping teams always have the right parts in the right place at the right time. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable running cranes and forklifts in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receiving: Unload incoming raw material (plate, beams, angles, tubing, etc.) from delivery trucks and verify quantities and descriptions against packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Material Staging: Organize and stage raw material and cut/fabricated parts by job, sequence, or work area to keep fitting and welding supplied without delay.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move material and assemblies throughout the shop and yard.
  • Load/Unload for Shipping: Load finished assemblies onto delivery trucks, ensuring proper securement and organization for the job site.
  • Inventory Tracking: Tag, label, and track material and parts using the shop's traveler/barcode system so location and status stay accurate.
  • Yard & Shop Organization: Maintain a clean, orderly yard and staging area, keeping material sorted and accessible and clearing walkways and work zones.
  • Kitting: Pull and stage the correct pieces for a given assembly or job ahead of fitting and welding to reduce searching and downtime.
  • Routine Maintenance: Perform basic upkeep and pre-shift inspections on cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment; report issues promptly.
  • Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, professional work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in material handling, warehousing, or a fabrication/construction shop environment.
  • Experience operating a forklift and/or overhead crane preferred; willingness to train and certify required.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read basic shop drawings, cut lists, and piece marks to identify and stage the correct material.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to track multiple jobs and material types at once.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in yard conditions, and work in a high-output shop environment for extended periods.
  • Reliability: A track record of punctuality and a commitment to meeting production and shipping deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $16–$18/hr depending on experience
  • All overtime paid at double time — not time-and-a-half
  • Shop-only work — no travel, home every night
  • Day or night shift available
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • Health and dental insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Opportunities for advancement within the company
