QC Tech — Day or Night Shift

Malvern, AR

Position Summary

All Steel is seeking a detail-oriented QC Tech to support quality control across our fabrication shop, reporting to the QC Manager. This role is focused on verifying that fabricated parts and assemblies meet shop drawing requirements and AISC tolerance standards at each stage of production, catching issues before they reach the next station. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye for detail, is comfortable reading drawings all day, and isn't afraid to flag a problem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dimensional Inspection: Verify cut, fit, and welded parts against shop drawings and cut lists using calipers, tape measures, squares, and other measuring tools.
  • Weld Inspection: Visually inspect completed welds for size, profile, and defects, and flag non-conforming welds to the QC Manager and welding team.
  • Documentation: Record inspection results, non-conformances, and rework using the shop's QC app and traveler system to maintain an accurate quality record for each job.
  • Stage Verification: Check parts at key stages (cutting, fitting, welding, paint) to catch issues early and prevent defects from moving downstream.
  • Non-Conformance Handling: Tag and segregate out-of-tolerance or defective parts, and communicate rework needs clearly to the responsible department.
  • Blueprint Review: Read and interpret structural shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to know exactly what "correct" looks like for each piece.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fitters, welders, and machine operators to resolve quality issues quickly without unnecessarily slowing production.
  • Reporting: Provide the QC Manager with regular updates on inspection status, recurring issues, and trends across jobs.
  • Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, professional work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in quality control, inspection, or a structural steel fabrication environment preferred.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret structural shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
  • Precision Mindset: High attention to detail with a low tolerance for letting a bad part slide.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with common measuring tools and basic AISC tolerance standards, or willingness to learn quickly.
  • Communication: Comfortable flagging issues to fitters, welders, and operators, and documenting findings clearly.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and move throughout the shop for extended periods.
  • Reliability: A track record of punctuality and a commitment to meeting production deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $17–$24/hr depending on experience
  • All overtime paid at double time — not time-and-a-half
  • Shop-only work — no travel, home every night
  • Day or night shift available
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • Health and dental insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Opportunities for advancement within the company
