Saw Operator — Night Shift

Position Summary

All Steel is seeking a dependable Saw Operator to join our night shift team, cutting structural steel to length in support of our fitting and welding crews. This role is focused on running the shop's saw line efficiently and accurately, keeping cut material flowing so the night shift stays productive from start to finish. The ideal candidate is self-sufficient, safety-minded, and comfortable working with limited direct supervision during overnight hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Operation: Set up and operate the saw line to cut beams, angles, tubing, and other structural shapes to length per cut lists and shop drawings.
• Parameter Optimization: Select correct blade, speed, and feed settings for the material type and size to achieve clean, accurate cuts and extend blade life.
• Technical Quality Control: Verify cut lengths and squareness against cut lists and shop drawings using tape measures and squares to ensure every piece meets All Steel's tolerance standards.
• Material Logistics: Load raw material and unload cut pieces using overhead cranes and forklifts, staging parts for the next stage of fabrication.
• Consumable Management: Monitor blade wear and coolant levels, and change blades proactively to maintain cut quality and machine uptime.
• Routine Maintenance: Perform daily machine cleaning, chip/scrap removal, and preventative maintenance on the saw line to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor mechanical or electronic issues at the controller to keep production moving overnight.
• Shift Communication: Log production, flag material shortages or quality issues, and hand off status clearly to the day shift and night shift lead.
• Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, professional work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements, with extra attention to safe practices during low-staffing overnight hours.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience operating a cold saw, band saw, or similar cutting equipment in a fabrication or metalworking environment.
• Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read cut lists and structural shop drawings and understand how they translate to physical parts.
• Precision Mindset: High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and material conservation.
• Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a high-output shop environment for extended periods.
• Reliability: A track record of punctuality and a commitment to meeting production deadlines, including consistent overnight attendance.
• Willingness to work night shift hours.

Compensation & Benefits

• $16–$20/hr depending on experience
